Default Windows Updates

When I go to Windows Update it tells me that theres 4 critical updates so I download them and they all fail
I've looked in "Installation history" and I've already got them all.

Is there a way to remove them from "Windows Update" list ??

And YES I've used SEARCH and looked through all 217 threads it gave me but can't find this problem anywhere

There is a section on the left-hand side of the screen on Windows Update called something like "Personalize Windows Update". Simply uncheck these updates and it won't show them anymore.

All fully installed but I just want them removed from the Update list so I don't keep trying to download the stupid things

Are the patches in add/remove programs? if so can you un-install them then install the ones that Windows update is trying to throw at you?

(I don't ever use winUpdate so I don't know how it works etc, only used it a few times)

Try going to Microsoft Update Catalog and downloading them and installing them manually.

Hope this helps.

I have to agree with TwoZigZagColt on this one. BigFix is a great lil app for updates.

Speaking of BigFix, i'd better go D/L it again

This will give you something to fiddle with. Don't know if it will do anything.

To Restore a Previously Declined Windows Update

Open System in Control Panel.
On the Automatic Updates tab, click Restore Declined Updates.
If any of the updates you previously declined still apply to your computer, they will appear the next time Windows notifies you of available updates.

Marge, I had the same problem a while back and there was a post somewhere in here that I used to fix the problem.

I'll go looking for it again...

Ok getting close. had to do with a corrupted update.log file. The answer was on the windows support site.

http://support.microsoft.com/newsgro...-us;newsgroups

Having no luck finding. The original answer was froma post in like Oct-Nov 2002.

Thought for the new millenium:

In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

- Open Office - Firefox - Thunderbird - Gimp -Ubuntu - Red Hat -
