Meaning, if I'm playing a FPS game on-line or working with 3dsMax, you know something heavy does it really make that much of a difference if I have 5 windows open, winamp open, and WinEx? Was just kind of curious. After discussing it with someone, I found that I tend to close everything but my friends has multiple things open. I realize that they are all apps, but seem more needy than others. |

I tend to close out everything i don't need before gaming. I use enditall 1 to selectively close what I want. After that I use the old three-fingered saluet (ctrl-alt-del) to close anything else out i want. Then i use tweak-xp pro to clen out my memory and force any stray .dll's to shut. THEN I GAME!!!

Having several CPU-intensive programs open at the same time will degrade the performance of each one of them, since all of them are trying to use the CPU for their own tasks.
So yes, it would be good to close out stuff that you don't need. |

I often have a game and winamp playing at the same time, along with mIRC, MSN and various other things. I do get a better score on benchmark programs when I close those things down, but visually and run wise it all works for me.
3dsmax, I would probably close down some stuff |
