Default Network Speed ?

First off let me tell you how my system is networked. On my first computer (host) I have my DSL line hooked up to my onboard lan and then I have a nic card in a PCI slot. My second computer has just one nic card. They are hooked together by a crossover cable and I use ICS.
My question is the network transfer speeds I am getting. If I copy a folder or file from one computer to the other it only transfers at 1meg a sec. It seems to be slow to me but I really dont know how fast it should be. If it is slow then where should I look to fix it. Oh the nic cards are 10/100's
