Default Changing Default installation path for all programs

hmm... this topic seemed most appropriate for this question.

Does anyone know how to modify Windows so that all programs are installed to a location OTHER THAN c:\Program Files? I have Windows on it's own 7 GB partiton on my 60 gig hard drive, and i hate always putting in D:\Program Files, especially when it cannot be just typed in.

well i hate to state the obvious, but why dont you just manually add the programs (when you install them from now on) to the other location that you want to put them in.

i would'nt know how to change the defauly 'windows' program files, but you can definitely do it with others!

I don't know if there is a default windows location for programs that are installed. The authors of the programs suggest a place for them which can be changed. I use cut & paste most of the time.

Pentium 4 2.6ghz 400mhz @ 3.07ghz 472mhz / Gigabyte GA-8IHXP v2.1 / RAMBUS PC 800 768mb / Sapphire Radeon 9600XT 256mb / 2 x Maxtor 80gb ATA133 DiamondMax, RAID0 :: 1 x Western Digital 7200 40gb / Liteon DVD-RW Dual Layer SOHW-1633S @ 1653S / Liteon 52x24x52 CD-RW LTR-52246S / Zalman CNPS7000A-Cu Fan / Antec TruePower 480w / RD3XP Gladiator Rounded Cables

I always just go to regedit and highlight My Computer > edit > find > type in commonfilesdir > find next.Then programfilesdir > find next.Should be 3 or 4 of each dependin on whether its home or pro.Just change the C: to whatever(usually F: for me).
But I do this in the very beginin after the install(fresh).
There is another default but at this point(if you already have some things in C: you could cause yourself some major probs down the road).

tweak-xp has a option to do that very easily. I have mine set to d:\Programs. also magictweak can do it for you.
