If its only 2 computers, you just need a crossover cable. to link them together. give the computer that is connecting to the net an ip address of say.. 192.168.0.1, and tell the second computer to use that as the default gasteway..
TEchnically yes your download speed will be reduced, but with it being adsl... not much.. normal internet surfing and stuff you wont notice a difference. if its a 512k connection and both of you are downloading a huge file at the same time, each will take 50% so instead of the file comming in at 50k a sec youll only get 20k a sec |

if they are both xp its a no brainer..........
first computer needs two connections, one to dsl and other for inside network. run the networking wizard (share this connection to other computers on the right click) and it will set up a dhcp and proxy server for other computers. then run wizard on others to use first computer to connect. (if just two a crossover cable can connect nics, otherwise a switch/hub). it sets all addresses to share. i have 8 sharing my dsl.............

To summarize, there are two ways.
1. Get a router. Code:
DSL
|
Router
/ \
/ \
Computer1 Computer2
Code:
DSL
|
Computer1 (two NIC:s)
|
| <-- Cross-over cable
|
Computer2
