Default office 2000 and windows 2000

When I am using excel. If I save a file on the network drive it is read only and I can not modify it. If I save it to the c drive and then drag it to the network drive. I can open and edit it. Anyone have any ideas?

check all your share and folder permissions....... sounds like as you save it through share its inheriting read only permissions but if saved on c then dragged it keeps what it got from c drive permissions......
