Talking XP Service Pack Creates Back-Up of Shell32.dll Upon Installation

Did your edited system icons (folder icons, drive icons, etc.)changed back to their default icon upon installation of the service pack? mine did too, its because the intallation created a back-up copy of the "shell32.dll in this path "C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386". that's why even if you replace the shell32.dll from "windows\system32 folder" or delete the other back-up from "windows\system32\dllcache folder" the icons would still be the default icons.

Solution: "Replace the shell32.dll file" the one that is found at this path - "C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386" and delete the other two under "system32" and "system32\dllcache".

Restart your computer, ahhh there it is! the good old days are back!

great! thanks for the heads up, I haven't actually installed the SP1 because I'm not even using WinXP atm (which is why I haven't been terribly active on the boards this summer), long story but I should be back up and running in the next few weeks.

Anyway, thanks again!!
