Default XP SP1 WPA Query

So when SP1 comes out, I know it checks for those two keys that are known to be pirated, but does it also check your key on a database of known, valid keys. I don't want my key being sent out. Also, if they do check the keys against a database, why would they have to check for the two pirated keys? Does this mean that sp1 will not install with a generated key? Microsoft couldn't possibly check your key against a database of valid keys if you have no internet connection, or is that just for Windows Update? Please explain.
