Default Folder views

This would fall under annoyances more than a problem:

I use My Computer for getting around my hard drives instead of Explorer. No particular reason other than I prefer it that way. The question I have is, Is there any way to keep each folder from being maximized when opening? I've tried numerous combinations of settings in folder options, all to no avail.
Thnx in advance,
Tom F.

How about attaching a small jpeg so we can see what is going on?

Nothing out of the ordinary to show. It's just a maximized folder, you know, takes up the whole screen when opened.
