you could try and do i repair using the cd.. it might help. or just remove the microsoft updates. b4 you try a restore.

The only way I know to get system retore to work again will not solve your problems. When & if you sort your troubles out turn off system restore & reboot. This will delete all restore points. Then turn system restore back on & from there it should work again.
