Default Annoying Problem

I've recently found a very annoying problem in windowsxp and i was wondering if anyone here knows how to fix it. Recently, when i open file browsers (such as start/run/browse), and file browsers for individual applications such as when you hit "open" in applications, the file and directory lists are in reverse order. It may sound like somthing stupid but it is in fact quite irritating. I can set a directory to sort by name, but as soon as i go to the next directory, its back in reverse order. This problem hasnt extended as far as my computer, it is only in the small file browsing programs that it does this. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Please Help!

try clicking on "Arrange my name" - doing this twice seems to reverse them...

If you read in my original message, ive already tried that. It fixes it, and then as soon as i go to another directory, same problem comes back, and if i go back to the directory i fixed it in, problems back again.
