Default Motherboard dead, need data from drives!

Hi Chaps,

I'll confess this is an area I know little about but I have a Dell Dimension 8400 which came as factory standard raid 0. Now the motherboard has died how do I go about getting the data off that I need?

Thanks in advance.

remove the hardrive, go to your local computer store and get an adapter that will power the hardrive, you can usb it to your next computer

your computer will see the drive, then you navigate around to find what you need

IT'S NOT WHAT YOU'VE DONE IT'S WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO

With RAID 0 the data is striped across 2 drives. That makes life ugly. If there is only one drive life is simple, you cans read the data inside any PC or USB external drive enclosure.

Option 1 - find a computer with a MB that has the same type raid controlleras the dead MB, Connect the two drives and it should see the drives as a RAID array. Just copy the files onto the HD in the new computer.

Option 2 - not sure if it will work in avery case, but download a Linux bootable cd image and burn a linux boot CD. Install the 2 old HDs in a working PC and boot from the Linux CD (not from the installed operating system or disks you are trying to recover). Linux should recognize the RAID partition and allow data recovery.

Good luck.

Thought for the new millenium:

In a world without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?

- Open Office - Firefox - Thunderbird - Gimp -Ubuntu - Red Hat -
