Windows 8 Developer preview now available!

Okay I'm a bit late on this one:

Click the Get Started link under "Download the windows developer preview" to get a few options to download.

Just remember this is only at developer status meaning the OS has not even reached beta yet.

This release is mostly for developers to start making sure there applications will be compatible with 8 or to develop new ones for the OS.

I did some research and VMWare 4 will work with it, but VMWare 3 will not

I've got installed but it's useless to me atm... it freezes ever few mins for about 30 secs or so..

I thought we were up to vmware 7? So why are you trying 3/4?

VMWare Workstation 8 comes with VMWare Player 4. VMWare website only has the free download of Player 3.

I've tried it. I don't like that you can't close out of apps without invoking the task manager. I get a little stuttering here and there with VMWare Player 4. I'm going to try to play with it a bit more for the next week or so.

You can run and install 8 without vmware by installing through vhd.

Runs so much better this way as the OS is really running on your hardware.

The only thing virtual is the hard drive.

Search for windows 8 install through vhd for guides on how to do it including dual boot guides.

I meant to say vmware fusion 4. Sorry. According to VMWare website, that is the latest one that came out this month. Unless I read it wrong? I just looked again and the latest, for MAC, is vmware fusion 4. I'm not sure what it is for other os's.

ah. You might be having issues due to windows 8 having hyper-v built in and active if you have a SLAT enabled processor (which means the core i series from intel and later opteron and phenom II's from amd).

Running a hypervisor inside a hypervisor doesn't work too well.

That is part of the reason I posted to install/run on a VHD as then the only thing virtual is the drive.
