The Acer Ferrari 5000
Posted by Electronic Punk on the 3rd June 2006 at 2:01pm 8 comments

I am currently out in Amsterdam with a few other community leaders from Asia, Europe and Africa. Obviously talking alot about Microsoft's next Operating System, but today we have had a talk from a Chris Aarons at AMD. He happens to have one of the few new Acer laptops.

There are only 10 of them currently in existence, at least seven of them have never left Acer and this one has spent most of the last few days locked in the hotel safe and will soon be taken away by armoured guards. Why? It is one of the first mobile AMD dual core 64bit chips in existence and in collaboration with Neowin we are pleased to bring you not only the second (there has only ever been one shot from the back) generous set of public screenshots but a movie too. You lucky lucky people.

Here are the general specs of the Acer Ferrari 5000:
- 15.4" carbon fiber desktop replacement
- AMD Turion 64 X2 Processor
- Outfitted with a 1.3 megapixel camera,
- Acer InViLik 802.11a/b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, gigabit Ethernet
- Dual-layer slot loading DVD±RW drive
- Weighs approximately 6 pounds

This may well have set my lifelong dream of being a cameraman back a few years.

"It is one of the first AMD dual core 64bit chips in existence"

I thought AMD dual cores already existed?

I'm guessing the phrase meant "one of the first mobile AMD dual core 64bit chips in existence".

Damn, I want that laptop...Any chance of getting benchmarks from somewhere?

yup, will edit to clear that up Smilie

We have some Acer Ferrari lappys at work. Also have the Acer Ferrari monitors too if I'm not mistaken. Smilie

Nice video. Looks like an epileptic took it during a seizure.

When would we see some benchmarks?

what is it?

what are you discussing there?
