XP runs great - until I try and install apps

Perhaps someone has seen this.

I have a new system (mostly new) and I am trying to test XP for work (corp edition).

I get XP installed, but then when I try and install any apps, the uninstall shield or sometimes demoshield or something - crashes and asks if I want to report it.

This happened with Quake3, Counterstrike, my Palm software and a similar error kept me from installing Office 2k.

I have the following hardware:

XP1800+
EPoX 8k7a+
(2) IBM 20G in a RAID 0 config as drive C: (40G)
(1) Maxtor 80G on the regular IDE as D:
Yamahah 8/4/24 CDR on the other IDE channel


I try and install XP and it seems to work - but once I am in, I cannot run "setup" for any proggies - it just crashes.

I reinstalled XP and it does the same thing - I put 98 on the machine and it works fine.

Any ideas?

(installs were very clean, fresh installs, not upgrade installs)

that is from trying to install Counter-Strike from the original CD - pretty much all applications do the same thing.

I did a clean XP install onto a drive that is not using RAID - same result.

Does ANYONE have this happening to them?

This sucks
