XP does not shut down

My Pachard Bell windows XP home edition, some times does not shut down when i press shutdown botton on keyboard or shutdown through the start- all programes . So i have to switch it from the wall. Can somebody help please here. Cheers Xazy

hmm..does the mouse "hang" when this is happening?..i mean do u get the busy cursor? cuz sometimes xp is having probs with quitting programs when u shut down. this did happen to me too, so what i did was to check if i can just hit the shut down button on my hard drive(control panel-performance and maintenance-power options. select the advanced tab and select "shut down" in the "when i press the power button on my computer" field. apply and the next time u shut down just hit the power button on the hard drive and it will shut down completly
