Xbox 360 kiosks running G5 systems

Yup, the 6800's have effectively 4 DVI signals coming from them, aka Dual-Link, which is featured on both ports, making it Dual Dual-Link. :)

One thing that I have noticed since being an active E3 media person for a few years is that this isn't Microsoft's first time that they have done this. When the XBox was originally presented at E3, my buddy and I were in the Media section and noticed that a few games were blue-screening. We decided to stay after the show and noticed that the XBox employees were unplugging their XBox controllers from HP and Dell computers that were actually playing the games. This year, since both the PS3 and 360 use IBM developed PowerPC-based cores on their processors/cell, it would seem only natural to me that Microsoft would, yet again, use a computer than the actual device. In this case, the G5.

It just seems a bit like bait-and-switch to me. Spew crazy numbers and "facts" and then give the illution that games are running on this alpha console when in fact they aren't at all. Why all the shaddy stuff? Why not just run a video demo and say the console is only alpha so it won't be playable? You could put the thing in a see-thru case so it's able to be seen at every angle if you wanna show it off. I personally don't see how people can support this as a positive business practice.

"This console is the greatest thing since sliced bread, just don't look behind the curtain". Yay for the land of Oz. :)

I'm just wondering why M$ has used two Apple G5's to run their demos for XBOX. Why couldn't they use a PC instead since that's where most of their softwares are based on.

Read the thread again, please. The answer is blatantly obvious.

Neither company has a finished product nor has either company claimed to have one therefore this has nothing to do with vaporware.

Both companies are utilizing multicore setups therefore again it is only plausible that they indeed utilise something that exists TODAY that is able to handle or represent to some degree the processes/capabilities in the near future.

Undoubtedly a lot PR is involved, but both systems WILL be powerful.

Yep. I remember when Sony first talked about the cell. At the time, the cell's concept made it over 1000X more powerful than PC's of the day. To date, the cell is what, still 20X more powerful than the PC's of today. Imagine a video game console with more power under its belt than a PC of the day... *boggles the mind*

From what I've read, it's a very different beast then your typical PC (Personal Computer ;)) CPU. I've heard it wouldn't be much good in a normal PC.

No console CPU will ever be any good in the average PC. They're built with specific instructions in mind and even though they may utilise the same architecture, getting code such as Windows or Mac OS to run on them will be very hard to achieve.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
