I have a laptop with Windows 2000 Server installed that I bring to work everyday, and join a domain. I also have a home workgroup with a Windows XP Professional desktop machine. When I come home and want to use the laptop, I usually start it up just like I do at work. The work domain is specified, and I use the same login/password as my work account. I am not vpned but the login still works without seeing the work domain controller. Now at home on my desktop (XP Pro) box, I have a printer and file shares that I would like to access from the laptop. However, when I try to do a \\xpprobox I get the error below. If I vpn into my work on the laptop, I am able use the shared printer on my home computer. Does anyone know if there is a way to access the resources without that hassle of vpning?
