Windows Server Software Update Services

Are you using GPO? So I would assume all of your XP workstations are in one OU and all of your 2000 workstations are in another OU?

We are not Active Directory yet. We start that August 1st! Yahoooooo!

Well you should be very happy once that is done. The implementation is a lot of fun though. By the end of it 'dcpromo' will be your best friend.

Personally I didn't really use DCPROMO, only as a check utility. I checked everything during the setup, and DCPROMO went smooth. I only mention this because I assume you meant it is a pain to work with. I found a GREAT guide online, from a GREAT site, which if you people haven't visited before, you should bookmark it...

I used DCPROMO to demote my last Windows 2000 Server domain controller. Obviously DCPROMO is only good for two things. Promoting and demoting.

I meant what I said, it will be your best friend. As will netdiag and dcdiag.

We have been doing a lot of testing in the lab, so hopefully things will go smoothly. We did our testing in the lab with a mockup of our domain, it has been going smoothly. But I know there will be some bumps along the way!

I have a question, which alot of you might think is silly, but I figure I will ask anyways :)

If you are using a stand-alone PC, and doing Office (doesn't matter what version) updates from the web, wether it is SPx or hotfixes, you are prompted for the installation media, even if you did a complete install.

How can WSUS install Office updates to the computers without it? I have heard of "Administrative installs" (which I understand to download the full update), is that how it works?

Whereas if you went to the web on your own, it just detects exactly what you need, and uses the CD to fill in the holes?

Maybe I answered my own question, maybe not, but I was just wondering....

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
