Windows Add/Remove Program

Went into Add/Remove program,pressed button for removing certain Windows components,got a message as follows,
Windows XP Setup
Setup was unable to load the master information file.
I pressed OK button,another message came up as follows.
The Application could not be initialized.

Any ideas.

How do I correct it?

PS.I was not looking for a specific item,just to look if there is anything I don`t need and can remove.

Perhaps a recent system restore?
