why'd you get your first computer

I kinda regret pestering my parents into getting me my first PC. Should have just bought a cheap type writer instead of wasting '000s. :(

I was programming Commodore computer stuff, plus some other illegal things at the time lol. Seemed to be the last erson I knew that hadn't converted to PC, a friend kept nagging for about a year but I wouldn't budge, then he got another new one and offered me his old one at such a ridiculous price that I couldn't say no. That was 16 years ago and I'm still going strong.

My family got the first Pentium 133 Mhz from Compaq for educational and games.

At 12 I got my own computer, top of the line specs:

AMD K6 500 Mhz
128 MB SDram
10 GB hard drive
DVD Rom drive
and a 17 Inch screen
A compaq presarrio

Any-ways, since then I have gone a long way. My personal computer and that of the family were my play-toy's. I would experiment with them, I learned most of my computer skills from those two computers. Especially fixing it when things were broken.

It was at 12 years old that I already had my own internet connection (free dialup provided by a company named http://freesurf.ch/) and also the first time I came in contact with pornography in all its glory.

Our first computer at home was an Intel 80286 machine running MS-DOS that my dad bought when I was around 6 or 7. I used to play a bunch of educational games (learning math, english etc.) that we had on those big (in size, but not in space) five and a quarter inch floppies.

About a year later, when I was about 8, I started dabbling with programming in GWBASIC after watching my brother working on stuff for school, and that was basically when my fascination with computers and software first began.

We then moved up to a 80486, a Pentium (w/o MMX...boo!), a Pentium II, and finally a Pentium III, and that P-III machine is still at home today, heavily upgraded, and being used as a server. My first "own" computer was the P4-based Dell Inspiron that I got right before finishing up high school, and my current machine is an Athlon64-based desktop. We've come a long way, baby. :)

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
