I have 3 boxes networked, all running XP. Everything was working great.

Tonight, for some reason, I can't access any system without first logging on. I didn't have to do this before, and I don't know why it wants me to now, but worse yet, I don't seem to have any logon ID or PW combo that works.

    any suggestions?

Which logon box is it, the Win2k Style or the Welcome Screen?

If its Win2k Style just enter your username and press enter. It should log you on if no password was previously set. If it is the welcome screen, try just clicking the arrow to login w/o a password. If you can get in, go to Start->Run and enter "CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2". In that panel, uncheck "Users must enter a username and password to use this computer."

If you can't get it at all, someone probably tampered with your PC, setting a password.

well, it's the win2k logon...... but the problem has changed. Before I just couldn't access it through the lan.....

Then I tried the "CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2" thing to fix that up. What has happened instead though, is n0ow I can't get into this machine at all. Now the win2k login screen shows up and no combination of userid/PW will get me in.

Absolutely no one else has touched this machine.

So, I can get in through another OS on the same partition, so can ne one tell me....... How would I wipe out this password thing, what file keep it??
