Does anyone know where I can find or get "smartdrv.exe" ?

I am using XP and do not have ME but may have an old W98 disc.

Apparently, i've read on the Microsoft support site that smartdrv.exe can greatly speed up the copying process of files when installing XP on a new hard drive (which seems to take a couple hours otherwise), but (brilliantly), no mention was made of where to get it or find it.

I believe its on the win98se disk.

Just copy it on your boot up floppy. You do NOT need this if your booting up to the XP disk and installing from there. If your using the floppy to install then you will.

In fact if you install xp from dos and don't use smartdrv, XP will actually prompt/warn you to abort and run smartdrv.exe to speed things up.

Yes Smartdrv.exe is available on Win 98 cd.
You can use the 98 floppy drive boot disc from Win 98 and after doing a search for this file add to boot disc
XP can be installed using this method and does speed up the file tfr process. to enable XP to install fresh in approx 25 mins.
