JPEGs are not free: Patent holder pursues IP grab
Posted by xsivforce on Friday, July 19 @ 00:00:00 BST

A video conferencing company based in Austin, Texas says it's going to pursue royalties on the transmission of JPEG images.

I read the article, and it dosnt make sense to me.... so anyone using a .jpg format can get sued, or what??

generally this does not mean the end users, but basically, I think, it means that anyone that has or will use jpg images or compression in their products will have to pay royaltyies..

Or that is what they are trying to do ,the whole thing is a farce tho, the official JPEG site has long said that jpeg would always be free...

It's just like the BT hyperlink thing, it will never pass in court.

I hope so... that would be pathetic to charge for using .jpg... people are trying to charge for anything now adays...

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
