I remember using Photoshop on a Mac a few months ago. This was my first "OS X" crash experience. Basically, all icons stopped responding, and the friggin Photoshop icon kept on bouncing. Since I didn't know how to do the equivalent of Ctrl + Alt + Del on a Mac, I was sooo frustrated.

P.S. This was once after more than 100 hours of using it.

There is a reason you don't know it, since it is hardly needed.

Apple + Alt + Escape

hit Escape again to make it go away.

Sounds like Photoshop froze. There is Force Quit (under the Apple), which is the same thing as ending an application or process in the Task Manager. I remember the first time I used it and the application closed immediately, I was like "yes, that's the way it should work!"

Equivalent of kill -9, and I agree, that is exactly how a kill application now kind of thing should work.

Having DVD Player or Photoshop crash isn't OS X crashing, it's the program.

I've had OS X itself crash on me a few times, some kernel panics, and some lock-ups, though they were sorted by SSH'ing in from another machine and fixing things :)

Under the right user, and hardware, XP is a very stable option, but my vote definitely goes to OS X from personal experiences.

What hardware? What processer type & size? What size memory?

Thanks in advance.
:)

I wouldn't say that XP's stability is contigent on whether you are running an Intel or AMD processor -- either is fine for the OS itself. I wouldn't run XP with any less than than 512MB of RAM, though more is obviously better (note that it can be run on less, but that doesn't mean it should be). I've never encountered a bad stick of RAM, personally, but it's suggested to go with a well-known manufacturer that has a good warranty (Crucial, PNY, Kingston, etc).

Oh no, DVD player crashing took down my entire system, lovely kernel panic and all. I wish it had only taken down DVD player the app.

I have 512 of Kingston memory.
:) Thank you very much.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
