Hey everybody, I'm getting some really weird shut down problems. Sometime when a program does some updating and needs to reboot the computer, it will go half way through the reboot process, but not actually shut down. You can't open anything up because of the fact that it states that the Window box is shutting down, but it's still open in windows.

Another error with that is that when I click shut down, it just heads straight back out to windows, I have to shut down Windows the wrong way. This happened both on my old machine, and now my new machine. Any ideas?

I thank ya for the attempt, but that really isn't what I'm looking for. Ya see, the thing that I wanted to look at considering the shut down portion of that page, is only for all Windows 9.x based operating systems. They had a lot of stuff about reboots instead of shutdowns for XP, but that's not what I'm experiencing. :(

well, if you look on that page, under the second major topic titled "Shutdown Hangs on saving your settings", that entire part is about windows xp, and it mentions an update you can get from Windows Update.

Well I'm not so sure that it hangs on Saving settings. It isn't like Windows 2000 where my computer was hanging at that point too {I kept having a userenv error}, but it at least tells you what point it is, and you KNOW it's in the shutdown process...

Where as with Windows XP, it just kicks right back out to the desktop, Task manager won't work {ctrl+alt+delete}, and no other programs will work... so I dunno how far it gets. I was lucky, it took awhile to shut down this morning, but not as long and it shut down without me holding the power button.
