Weird Problem

I recently noticed that if I have Windows Media Player 8.1 running in the background that my downloads and webpage loading is really fast. It doesn't have to be running a movie or any music for this to happen. Why is Media Player making my connection run faster? And by the way, I'm running Windows XP and my connection is Cable. Thnx in Advance if you can help me with this weird problem.

It might have something to do with cable bacause dialup plods along as it always has. :(

The reason could be that Windows Media Player is communicating with Microsoft when you're running WMP and are connected to the Internet.... therefore hostname lookups could be faster because of a open DNS but I don't think that overall internet speed is faster, it just seems so because some sites open faster, probably the MS ones too ;-).

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
