Website Cost

I don't know anything about wordpress ... can you explain why there's a content management system for a site that sounds like it's basically an information website?

Most web producers I know (myself included) do what you do ... design the look/feel in Photoshop and then move to DreamWeaver and work with a template for page development. And RSS feeds are pretty easy to ad, as far as I know.

I think you'll have a lot more freedom to create a site that has the right set of interactions with DW, or even straight HTML (truly my personal preference).

As to not having a portfolio ... congrats on getting a good start on one!

It'll come in handy if the owner ever wants to edit the info in the future. Plus Wordpress has a lot of user created plugins that can add functionality to the site that would take ages to manually code.

okay, can you splain me, please, how a CSM helps with editing or changing content in the future when there's one author?

my experience has been with 1-person sites and then multi-author sites (recent corporate site). the former ... basically an interactive business card. the latter ... well, in my view, kind of a disaster. the user interface for writers/editors was complex the output apparently very limited by the use of a CSM and, they told me, unable to make searchable.

i do get you with the plug-ins.

just seems like one should design the look/feel, information architecture, and interaction flow before sitting down to code anything.

Most people are terrified of opening up Notepad and manually adding content within the code. A CMS like Wordpress gives them a friendlier WSYIWIG interface.

Something like Wordpress makes it really simple to have multiple authors. All you do is create different users and give them the necessary permissions, and then they can just update a certain section of the website, without mucking around in areas they shouldn't be.

Words of wisdom.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
