web directory lister?

is there a way u can list the directories of a website, like a program or something. if i have a folder filled with files on a webserver i can simply see the listing if there is no index file. but is there any programs that just list all the directories anyway of websites so i will know all the directories eg..

www.site.net/main/
www.site.net/images/
www.site.net/files/
www.site.net/files/downloads/
ect...

or even listing the files on an ftp without being logged in...

public_html/main/
public_html/images/
ect...

any way this can be done? with a program or manual?

Are you talking about your own site or someone else's?

If it is your own site and you have PHP then you can use a script I created here Dir List Script

If it is someone else's site then it's not possible.

Oh hang on. I think I read that wrong.

You want to recursively read ALL the folders.. even multiple folders deep ?

i dont understand that? recursively?

i basically just want to list all the directories on a server whether its through ftp or http. not too bothered about the files on the server just the directories on mine and another server
