Vista will not boot from HDD or CD

Updated Vista yesterday and on restarting the computer it got to installing update 3 of 3 then keeps restarting.

Tried to boot from CD but after a few files were installed nothing.

After a while it says cannot find drive. then nothing.

I have tried safe mode, last known good etc but to no avail.

Any ideas anyone?

Many thanks for the link, it will come in useful.

I eventually got around the problem by installing vista on my second HDD and reformatted the problem hard drive. A bit drastic but was all I could think of at the time.

I will be more careful during windows update in future!
