Video Size (compression!?)

I have serveral .avi files that are very large because it was put thriugh the tv tunner card from a camcorder to put on the computer. But I was wondering if I can make these files any smaller for people to download. Even if I change them to mpeg's it will be better then it is now. For example right now I have a file that exactly 5:00 minutes long and its 1.06GB big!!! Thanks for anyhelp!

DivX or xVid are probably your best choices. If you want to be able to play them on a DVD player you can encode them into .mpg and burn them as VCDs. Go to www.vcdhelp.com for information on how to do this.
