the compound internet is ganna be upgraded from normal network to VDSL 8megabytes per sec shared. so i wanted to know how good this is. i looked at some comparrissons and it said that its much faster than adsl. what are the ups and downs of this. well ill tell u one up, its no price increase from the normal network! YAY! and while the normal network is 128kb i get like 50kbs so thats good! the guy said i use 97% of the recources but i think hes lying or joking!:p

do you mean 8Mb connection? or do you mean you'll be able to download at 8Mb/s?

there is a difference...

the 8Mb connection is actually 8megabit...

i think its 8megabits to 1megabyte so if that is true, you'll download at around 1Mb/s

Overheads in the protocols and all will give you 1MB/s at about 10Mbit bandwidth acctually. That's what I can get out of my 10Mbit on a good day anyway. :)

VDSL at 8MB/s (64Mbit) sounds a bit high, but go for it anyway! VDSL is better than ADSL. If not, something is wrong. :)

umm no!

its 8mb (MEGABYTES) DOWNLOAD to the server then shared to the whole compound. and i think it was 1mb (MEGABYTES) upload

ALL ARE IN MEGABYTES NOT MEGABITS!

Then why do you even ask?? GO FOR IT DUMMY!! :p :D

*note* We will all hate you because you have the best connection, but I think you can live with that. ;)

(Providing the facts are right of course) :)

Network Speeds are always measured in bits.;)

so... DSL faster then a T1 for the price or normal dsl.... I don't buy it.

Ive only ever gotten about 800k on our T1 at school and thats late at night.

aye... i see loads of people making the mistake of saying they have a 1megabyte cable connection... and I say "no, its a 1megabit" and they argue that they're right... i usually tend to leave them to their own little imaginary world

themafia_69 - you mention "compound internet" - what is that exactly? is it like a connection shared by people in a block of flats or in a hall of residence at a university?

compound is those things with houses and stuff and they are usually the size of a town or something. thye have their school there and mall.

so its basically shared between a whole town of people then?
ouch :/

Here's the technical specs:

VDSL (Very High Bit Rate Digital Subscriber Line)

Maximum Download: 52Mbps/6.5MBps (Mbps = Megabits per second; MBps = Megabytes per second)

Maximum Upload: 16Mbps/2MBps

In relation to ADSL, yes, it would be a better upgrade for you, considering you are running at the maximum speed. Average VDSL runs at about 8-10Mb down and 1-2Mb up.

Yes, people do get Megabits and Megabytes confused a lot. When dealing with datatransfer, information travels in bits, not bytes. Thus, when you see internet speeds, it is usually in megabits or kilobits per second. The abbreviation for Megabit/Kilobit is Mb/Kb. The abbreviation for Megabyte/Kilobyte is MB/KB.

Note: Some people use the letter "K" to mean both kilobit and kilobyte. You just need to understand the relation that person is using to describe the scenario. For example,

I have a 56K modem: Means that I have a 56 Kilobit modem.

I'm downloading at 800K/s: Means that I'm downloading at 800 kilobytes per second (which is around what I do now :)).

no!

Ramis a dumbass, my compound has 128 villas and it isnt the size of a town! and onnly like 30 houses have the internet from the compound. and there are no malls in the compounds! only aramco is a huge compound which is considered to be a city because it is the compound of the oil company aramco which is the biggest oil company in the world. it has many thousand houses and employes. they have dsl for people on main camp and the rolling hills, thats another part of it. and its free, but filteerd for porn and stuff as all saudi internet, except compound ones like mine hehe!

listento wha i say!

btw i never said that network speeds are measured in megabytes RabidPenguin! i said the download speed is 8mb! so if ure stupid and let me think what i think that means thats 64mbps for the whole compound, but 52MBPS is the maxium for vdsl so thats the max i can get of the 64 if u undrestand!

god i know what im talking about dont correct me!

Dude! You really need to chill man. Noone is here to call you stupid or anything else so please don't call anyone else stupid either. Anyone can get wrong info.
