Uninstalling apps

How do you uninstall applications.

I just deleted that works type thing that came with my iBook, but on new accounts the button still shows up on the doc.

Drag/Drop into the trash, then empty the trash.

Haven't had to make a new account, but I would gather that AppleWorks ("that works type thing") is just one of the standard apps put on the dock, just like iChat and Safari.

How can i stop it from being added?

I can say that I honestly do not know, I would imagine it's some o/s level config file, it's basically the equivalent of items which get put into every Windows users start-menu.
