Transfer of Files to exterior hard drive

I have just got a new computer with Vista Premium already installed. I have done several downloads which I wish to keep just in case. On XP I would move these files to a folder on my exterior hard drive. I can't seem to find how to do this on Vista, it was simple with xp. Can anyone help me on this please?

does the drive show up in explorer ? if so drag and drop or copy and paste
