The NVIDIA 9600 GT

I wouldn't be too sure yet reading alot of mixed stuff on this 9xxx series.

The 9800 GTX could be a little bit faster with slightly worse hardware (!) or it could be stonkingly faster - we don't know just yet.

Well, from what I can gather the 9800 GTX isn't going to be a huge upgrade over the 8800 GTS/GTX. The lack of competition in the high end marketplace is to blame in my opinion. ATI & Nvidia have been going at it on the value front though, great time to be buying a new midrange video card.

If I were to guess, I'd say the 9800 GTX is going to be 20 - 30% faster than the 8800 GTX. The 8 series has been out since November 2006, hard to believe huh? I got my 8800 in October of that year.

I'd be happy with that, even more so if it is cooler, quieter and less of a power-hungry monster ;)

Very true, if the 9600 is any indication its going to run a lot cooler and save some money on power.

20-30% faster wouldn't be bad. Then I can go from 22 fps in Crysis to 29 FPS.

It's a good thing that game isn't a barrel of awesome, or I'd feel like I was missing out. Now once there's a multiplayer mod where everyone can play the single player campaign together, that's going to be great.

I'm not all the excited about the 9600 Gt. I would if the price were to drop but it's too close in price to the 8800GT to be worth it. I would just save 20 or 30 more dollars and get the 8800 GT...

The 9600 is a great product though just in the wrong price segment.

Aprox: i'd have to guess the 9800GTX will probably be somewhere between 15-20% faster than the Ultra. If i had to guess a price...... probably high $300 range. Main reason i'm guessing this is because the 9800GX2 is rumored to be roughly 30% faster than the 8800 Ultra, and is also rumored to be released with an MSRP in the $400-500 range..... probably more around $430-450 to have a competitive price with ATI's 3870 X2.

I think the 9600GT prices have started dropping already... I'm well tempted to get one of these for £120.

My mobo is only PCI express 1.0 (or 1.1, not sure which) however, so I don't wanna get burned like some people did with the 8800GT. Anyone know of any compatability problems with these and older PCI express mobos?

Or there's this for £135

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
