switch off or leave on

is there a definate answer to this some peolple say it is best to leave your computer runner at all times then others say you should switch it off every night what do the "team " here think?

I like to leave mine running, but every once in awhile, shut it down, like maybe once a week or so, really doesn't hurt it either way.

I turn mine off. Mainly because there's no reason to leave it on (no broadband). Having it on will wear on mechanical parts, plus if something fails during the night or when you're not at home (fan, hdd) you're toasted. If you are at the machine when it happens, then you can at least turn it off before it commits suicide.

true but by turning it on and off all of the time, you are sending massive amounts of electricity to the componenets of the computer which wear them down quicker. that alone will cause your parts to die quicker.

in all honesty it dosnt matter anymore. most people get an ew computer in less than 2 years anyway. whether you shut it off or leave it on it is still gonig to last for more than 2 years

Living in thunderstorm country and having had 2 systems fried by lightning... I try to turn all my stuff off when I leave the house or turn in for the night. I figure it's better to have a little wear & tear on the hardware rather than that really massive amount of electricity from the sky.
