I'm currently doing a group assignment at uni in which we have to take on the roles of entrepreneurs and create our own business schemes. We've come up with an idea of providing a subscription based streaming DVD service, of which the member would also have to pay-per-play.

I've been told to research into the following sects, and to produce a brief report.

I would appreciate any help that can be given on the following topics:

Hosting - What is required in a host in order to setup a streaming video service? How many hosts would be needed for national/international streaming?

    Hardware
    - What hardware would be required? What is recommended as being the best in the market at the moment?

Software - What software should be used to stream the video? How would the audio/video quality remain good?

Encoding - What format should be used for streaming?

Protection - What can be done to prevent videos from being copied, reused (more than 1 play), downloaded?

Advertising - What tactics should be taken place in order to allow the business to expand as far as possible?

Legal Issues - Being a DVD streaming service, companies (eg. Dreamworks, Sony Pictures, Disney, etc..) may not like the fact that we're distributing their products in such a format. What actions should be taken? How can we be protected from law suits, etc..?

Any help at all on any of the above topics would greatly be appreciated.
