I dont follow these forums honestly so I dont know if this has been posted already.

To stop the instant messenger spam that can appear on your desktop is very easy. Just follow these steps

If you are running Windows XP Pro then

    Right click on my computer
    Click Manage
    Double click "Services and Applications"
    Double click "Services"
Scroll down the list until you get to "Messenger" then right click on it and click "stop".

    Hope that helps :)

Or get a router that blocks off WAN pings.

Software firewalls would do the same thing.

/me likes the Messenger service. :p

You should also set the Start-up type to Manual or Disabled. It's useful to send server-wide messages telling users of a server reboot and stuff though.
