Stop MSN from opening with outlook 2003

So how do i do this? i do not want to delete messenger because i sometimes use it. But i do not want it to open everytime i open outlook 2003. And i cant close messenger once outlook is open. It says "There are other applications currently using features provided by windows messenger...." So i have to close outlook to close Messenger. Any way around this you guys know of?

Can't you just do this in options?

Tools, Options, tab named Other, disable Enable Instant Messaging in Microsoft Outlook

That thread has info for disabling the opening of messenger when you use hotmail thru IE (stupid feature if you ask me).

I believe American Zombie's information should cure the problem in regards to msn messenger opening with outlook.

I'll have to check that out admiral micheal as I find it annoying that messenger gets started checking my email through ie and hotmail

So you are talking about MSN Messenger, cause Windows Messenger you can just go into Program Files, and rename the Messenger folder to MessengerOFF, and it wont bother you.

sometimes the easiest things work. This is waht i did, then make a new shortcut for messenger so i can still use messenger when i need it.
Im not sure why i didnt think of this, but thank you.
