upon startup i am faced with my program files folder instead of my desktop. i do not see any strange services in the system configuration utility. and i am very confused. i hope this is the right place to post.

thanks

sounds like u need a fresh install of XP!! it heals all....

i just reinstalled and set everything up, i hope i dont have to do that.

yay! good for you but, you prolly will do it many a time more.

Before reinstalling I'd check the shortcuts in your startupfolders (userprofile + allusers). Rightclick - properties. Look if one has a command with spaces in it and is not set in "s. For example if one reads : C:\program files\xxx.exe instead of "C:\program files\xxx.exe", Windows will only read until C:\program and open this folder.

tried that but could not resolve the problem. maybe ill just let it boot up like that.

Try this, right click My Computer---> System Properties ---> Advanced ---> User Profiles Settings ---> and delete the Profile you currently logs as and reboot. But remember! All of your previous settings including Destopk Icon arrangements, Wallpaper etc will revert to XP default.

Still the possibility that the command for one of the programs started from the registry has this space in it without beeing set in quotes. Open systeminformation (run > sysinfo32.exe) and look under software > autostart.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?
