spare computer...

    i have a spare computer that my dad got from work. its nothing amazing but i was thinking of making it into a server or a ftp of sorts, or install linix and make a dedicated counter strike server. just wondering. thanks in advance.

    You could make it a file server. Run any OS, depending on the hardware configuration. Remember that even if you choose to install linux, you can share files over the network using SAMBA.
    Just use it to store large downloads, music, backups etc.
    Beats using CD-Rs for every darn thing. :D

    which type of linux should i install. it has to be small, good at server type stuff and and have a decent GUI. also how would i go about making my computer into a file server and such. thanks in advance.
     
  4. You could use it as a firewall, like install Smoothwall on it?
    I know you want it as a server, but thats just an alternative :)
