I thought that one of you guys might be able to help me with this.

I just bought a GeForce4 420 Mx PCI and when I put it in my computer, it works fine, until i install the drivers. After the driver installation and restarting the computer, it boots up fine, but then after about 20 seconds it freezes.

So here is what I did: I took out my sound card (Creative Soundblaster Live X-Gamer) and now it works fine. But of course.....I want both video and sound.

Is this because the cards might be sharing the same IRQ? I've had them in many different slots already..........

I have a Pentium 3 800 with an Asus Mew-Am motherboard, 4 pci slots and no agp.

What can I do to have the cards in the computer at the same time and it still works?????

do you have any other PCI slots occupied other then sound and video? under windowsXP most IRQ's are shared..cause they are routed by the OS instead of the bios like old school days...try maximum separation of the cards..or you can try manually setting an irq in the bios to see if that makes a difference....then if noone else has any other ideas ya can jump to the last resort completely uninstalling both drivers..then install vidboard and drivers, then sound and drivers...and if all else fails re-install of XP (but try to avoid that one)
