here I am at a hot spot, I got disconnected, repaired my oonnection, the computer says there is no connectivity

I go to the applet, it says I'm not connected, I refreshed the list, not connected

all of my internet icon thingys in the trat have the red x

yup, it was...not there anymore, may not be able to reproduce the event

Are you sure it's not one of those services/hotspots that you have to register for through a web interface (those types are notorious around here).
