Sidebar contacts mailto not working

Hi All,

I have the Contacts gadget on my sidebar, when I click on the email link, I get an error that the application is not found. I am using Windows Mail,

How can I fix this?

Which Gadget is it? Was it created by Microsoft?

I would believe it is created by MS, it is a default gadget in the "Add Gadgets" section of the sidebar.

Update: I have been flipping through the registry, and finally found the registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto\shell\open\command\default
I have modified the filepath to winmail.exe, but now it starts winmail, but does not open the "Compose" window. It just opens the winmail.exe process, but not the app itself. Will continue to fidget around with it.


Any help would be appreciated.

Try adding the following to the end of the path: /mailurl:%1

e.g. "PATH TO WINMAIL.EXE" /mailurl:%1

I don't use Windows Mail on my Vista boxes so I have to way of testing it.
