    whenever i log onto my pc, there is an icon called shellmon.ph. i delete it. when i log on again the next day or wenever it may be, it reappears. help please.

    Download an anti-malware type application (I prefer Microsoft AntiSpyware and Lavasoft Ad-Aware). Make sure they are up-to-date and run a scan.

    Doing a quick Google search yielded several results suggesting malware.

    You might think about running "msconfig" and looking for entries that don't make sense. You should also run your antivirus software.

    yes i did msconfig. got rid of a load of junk. will now run anti-v.

    yes i do. im using it at the mo. but why does it keep appearing on desktop.

    Not sure. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling AOL if it's not too much trouble.

    That's a problem with AOL. It installs all that extra bloat. Port Magic, the Media Player, and Learn2Play come to mind. I'll add Shellmon to that list.

    Uninstalling AOL doesn't remove third party applications installed with AOL. I would look in Add/Remove for Shellmon and just uninstall it.

    It probably runs on startup and that's why it adds itself back to the desktop.
