    Hello,

I know a way to speed bootup time is to disable unused services/apps from running at startup. Figuring out which apps do what is pretty straightforward, but what do the services in a typical xp system do? I don't want to go through the process of blindly disabling a service and see what it does (or doesn't do). Is there an article or list that explains each of these services do? Of course there will be some variance from system to system, but there will be many common ones.

This is a good site, that gives you the review of what the service does, what it needs, the default option (What Bill Gates wants), recommended (Gamer, or Internet Sharing)...

    Check it out :)

Thats usually the first thing I do after a Windows install. I've had XP running on 14. Then a few more were installed with Norton and Zone Alarm. Beware though, some of those you might need that he has disabled.
