yep it's part of the wallpaper. it works good unless my recycle bin is full then it's different. but i always empty it right away anyways.

Hello everyone,

Question: I've noticed that people with active desktop items on their desktop still have drop shadows for their icon labels on their desktop. So basically the text for their icons still have a transparent background. Whenever I put a active desktop item in and lock it my icons backgrounds' don't go transparent. Something wrong with my machine?

XP Pro, SP1, latest updates.

have you set the text labels to have drop shadows?

right click my computer > properties > advanced > performance

second one up from bottom is the option to turn on and off drop shadows from text labels on the desktop
