Do an ABX test. I bet you'd be suprised. BTW, I am an audio engineer by trade and work at a few different local studios. First of all, a studio would never use a compressed format. Hell, for a studio, 16bit/44.1kHz is a compressed format.

ME 2, But alot of "artists" that come into the studio nowadays already have their "beats" down in some sort of compressed format (usually mp3, lol).
yes, if the studio is recording the artist from a-z then absolutley you wouldn't use any compressed format...but since alot of folks do the instrumentation at home and just wanna go into a professional studio for the vocal tracks, you hafta adapt.
