Ok, this being my first SATA Hard Drive, i'm not sure if it's normal or not (though hoping it is). When i start the computer, i kinda hear a little bit of a whine in 2 separate bursts, first kinda low pitch, then a little higher pitch. When i turn the computer off, just before it actually shuts down, i hear like 2 or 3 moderately loud clicks about a second apart from each other. Is this stuff just caused by the different source of power used/power management?

It's a 120GB Western Digital by the way.

I'm assuming it's a 7200rpm drive?

The whining is normal, that's the drive spinning up. As for the clicks, I wouldn't say that is normal. Clicking is normally a bad sign for a drive.

I was just kinda assuming that it was normal to hear that during it's shutdown routine. Anyone else have any insight on the issue?

hi mate, i have 4 250gb drives of the sata breed all 7200's and they all do exactly that, now i panicked and asked the manufacturer about it and they said its perfectly normal. so dont panic.

hope t his helps.

Also Hi EP and people. I found this place again while looking through a oooollllllldddd backup. I have filled over 10TB and was looking at my collection of antiques. Any bids on the 500Mhz Win 95 fix?
Any of the SP crew still out there?

Impressed you have kept this alive this long EP! So many sites have come and gone. :(

Just did some crude math and I apparently joined almost 18yrs ago, how is that possible???
