Interesting. Right up there with Best Buy buying Napster. That's going to be interesting.

The google deal is going ot be about ad's. Expect Steam games to be inundated with banners and pop ups. The next step after what they did with Battlefield.

The step after ad's will be pay to play on all games. Too many are going that way already. $50 down and monthly payments for the rest of your life.

It's the new business model for the United States. You don't make and sell products you get people on log term maintenance contracts and bleed them dry. RE the cell phone industry from nothing in 1998 to trillions in 2008.

I'm not so sure about that - Google basically went from a tiny startup to a global corporation earning $4bn a year by distinctly avoiding banners and pop-ups. I'm not saying that they won't push advertising, but Google has already learned the lessons from every other search engine's failures, in that obtrusive and irrelevant ads are clearly not the way forward.

Steam is the only reason they are going after Valve it seems. Hopefully Valve will keep developing their games and continue polishing their gems like Portal 2, Episode 3 and others for release.
